When determining pricing, we take many factors into consideration: the estimated retail price, the price paid for the item new, seasonality, age of item, quality, style, and the current make-up of our existing inventory.
Because of the convenience of cleaning out with thredUP, our payouts are sometimes a little lower than what you might get at a peer-to-peer site or at your local consignment shop. When you sell your items to thredUP, we take care of everything for you. We send you a Clean Out Kit with a pre-paid shipping label and following that, we manage the listing and selling process.
The payout that you'll receive for any given item is based on listing price, brand, and whether the item is women's or kids'. Forthese 600+ LUXE brands, you'll receive a 10% boost of payout if the listing price is greater than $100:
We want to be the one stop shop for cleaning out your closet and we take everything from Gap to Gucci! To give you a few examples of potential payouts:
If you send in a women's J.Crew top that is listed for $15.99, you'll receive 10% of $15.99, which is $1.60
If you send in a Louis Vuitton tote that is listed for $899, you'll receive 90% of $899, which is $809
If you’re curious about how much you might receive for a particular item, you can always check the Payout Estimator prior to sending your item in. While this valuable tool is helpful in estimating a payout price, we cannot guarantee accurate payout information until we evaluate the item in person.

“Just to be quite honest, my first bag earnings sucked, it was so low. I did it just because I wanted to get all these items out of my house. I didn’t feel like going to Goodwill. I didn’t really follow the right steps. I didn’t check the items well and I didn’t get a good payout. So I worked with our customer service team to get some great tips and once I started going through the steps, my payouts started getting better.”
-Check your items meticulously. Our merchandiser team is checking clothes every single day. They’re going to catch the tiniest little flaw.
-Make sure every item is extremely clean. I always think, would I give this to my best friend? Would she accept it and love it and wear it?
-Ask yourself: Are the styles in season? Are these brands popular at thredUP?
